Daarbij moeten we wel niet meer denken aan grootmoeders bordenkast. Keramiek is intenser en moderner geworden en heeft resoluut zijn plaats ingenomen in de collecties van de grootste Italiaanse uitgevers. Hedendaags keramiek had nooit eerder zo de wind in de zeilen. Traditie is hinderlijk, maar het is geen breekpunt!&#8217; De 50-jarige Nicol\u00f2 Morales woont in Caltagirone, een stadje in Sicili\u00eb dat bekendstaat om zijn keramiek, en geldt als een vertegenwoordiger van de alternatieve golf van het modern classicisme. Een bezoek aan het zenuwcentrum daar leert hoezeer keramiek nog leeft bij tal van ambachtslui, \u2018cannatari\u2019 genoemd. Hun eeuwenlang geperfectioneerde knowhow geven ze door van generatie op generatie. Nicol\u00f2 Morales is zo\u2019n Meester in de kunst van het sublimeren van gebakken klei, die in keramiek zowel kunstwerken als designmeubelen maakt, in eigen naam of onder het merk van een van de grote Italiaanse uitgevers.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bamboo_collection\"><\/span>Bamboo collection<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Bureau Paola Lenti werd in de jaren \u201990 opgericht door de gelijknamige architecte en volgde al die tijd een dynamische strategie, gebaseerd op onderzoek en experimenteren, met puur, veeleisend design dat hightech en de nobelste natuurlijke materialen combineert. Faience kreeg een centrale plaats in de nieuwe Bambou-collectie van Paola Lenti: hangende mobiele scheidingen van de hand van Nicol\u00f2 Morales. Die bestaan uit stalen kabels met cilindertjes van verschillende afmetingen in majolica, een ge\u00ebmailleerde Italiaanse faiencesoort. Die zijn als kralen aan een snoer geregen en van elkaar gescheiden door vilten schijfjes. De cilindertjes, met de hand versierd en beschilderd door de Siciliaanse meester-keramist doen wat aan bamboe denken, vandaar &#8230; De kleuren zijn typisch voor de kunstenaar. Zijn tinten zijn het resultaat van het mengen van natuurlijke pigmenten, oxiden en aarde die hij hier en daar op het eiland vindt en tot nooit-geziene schakeringen verwerkt. Zo vervaardigt hij in keramiek en in een gamma van 18 exclusieve kleuren het blad van de \u2018Nesso\u2019-tafel, een ontwerp van Francesco Rota voor Paola Lenti. \u2018De kleur is manueel aangebracht, met de kwast, waardoor de expressiviteit ervan goed tot uiting komt. Iedere centimeter laat een andere schakering zien, waardoor het wel een levend voorwerp lijkt,\u2019 vertelt hij. Ook voor de lage tafeltjes van verschillende vorm en formaat in keramiek in de nieuwe \u2018Calatini\u2019-reeks van Paola Lenti werd dankbaar gebruikgemaakt van het werk van Morales, die elk stuk afzonderlijk decoreerde in speciaal ontwikkelde zomerse kleuren of in verschillende tinten wit.
