Whether you have a small balcony, a patio or an expansive garden, in 2025 outdoor spaces are being transformed into an extension of the home where comfort, luxury and nature meet. From sustainable designs with recycled materials, energy-efficient lighting, green roofs and smart technologies to garden lounges. This year’s trends centre around comfort, connection with nature and creating personal oases, with a surplus for functionality, aesthetics and maximizing outdoor bliss. But that’s not all, 2025 also brings international flair to our outdoor spaces. Be inspired by Scandinavian minimalism or Mediterranean charm. For example, Mates – the modular sofa collection by Federica Biasi for Gervasioni – shows a sophisticated combination of comfort and style. With clean lines and soft, luxurious cushions that provide an elegant look and the ultimate relaxed, outdoor feeling.

Room for all – a statement of luxury in itself. Our favourite? The versatile Pangiri table by Extremis, endlessly expandable with chairs, benches and additional elements, as desired. Ideal for intimate dinners or a big family party, as is Royal Botania’s modular Regaliz Table, by Kris Van Puyvelde. With oval teak bases and glass tabletops in three colours – dark green, dark brown and pebble – and a unique texture due to a special glass melting technique. With sizes up to 490 cm and trapezoidal sections, it offers grandeur and flexibility.

WARM WOOD AND OPTICAL TRICKS

Natural materials like teak, acacia and eucalyptus wood are given an architectural flavour this year, creating a perfect symbiosis between furniture and nature. DEBA Furniture has named teaktonic as the trend of the season, and Exterioo’s new Lomano and Bomero lounges create a floating illusion with their elegant frames made of teak or aluminium. The Embrace Outdoor Lounge Series is the latest addition at Carl Hansen & Søn, featuring dining and lounge furniture for indoors and outdoors.

A MATCH MADE IN COLOURS

Garden furniture in 2025 is anything but boring. The muted colours of previous years are making room for bold, expressive designs that bring new vigour to outdoor spaces. Vibrant cushions like Paolo Lenti’s and Lacividina’s organic shapes are sure to give your patio a personal touch. Turn to jewel tones and geometric statement patterns or allow summery pastels to fill the space. What’s our preference? The Buddy Oasi by Pedrali maintains the contrast between the bold colourful volumes of the seating set atop slender legs. The footstool features a waterproof cover and removable outer fabrics for easy maintenance and can also be transformed into a sofa with an adjustable backrest.

COMFORT AND WELL-JUDGED DESIGN

With outdoor spaces becoming a part of everyday living, the patio trends of 2025 are concentrated on combining comfort and functionality to levels that rival indoor spaces. These trends go beyond aesthetics to centre on experience, relaxation and well-being. Flexibility plays a significant role, with modular furniture sets aimed at facilitating different activities. SOFACOMPANY responds to this trend with a new line of outdoor sofas, including the Vincent Outdoor, an architectural version of their original Vincent sofa. ‘After years of research and development, we have created an extraordinary outdoor collection suitable for balconies, patios and cosy gardens,’ says Line Nevers Krabbenhøft, head designer at the Danish company. The Vincent Outdoor is distinctive with its minimalist, powder-coated structure and with legs angled slightly inward for a lighter look. ‘The soft, weather-resistant cushions offer – as our indoor sofas do – ultimate comfort, making this sofa a stylish choice for any outdoor experience.’

Outdoor furniture is nearly indistinguishable from indoor furniture, and this trend continues to grow. Indoors and outdoors flow into one another, with durable materials that perfectly combine aesthetics and functionality. The 10:30 sofa by Anderssen & Voll embodies this trend with its geometric lines, a lightweight look and ash or iroko wood frame options. And it is also available as an armchair, two-seater or extendible model – multiplying the ways that the 10:30 can subtly blend into any setting. Marco Acerbis’ Talenti Jun collection adds a touch of elegance, with teak frames, ‘ton-sur-ton’ (or fully matching) upholstery and generous, East Asian-style seating. Irregularly shaped wooden tables with glass stoneware tops complete the look.

SOFT LANDING

Outdoor rugs are a must-have for any outdoor space in 2025, extending the warmth and ambiance of indoors to gardens, patios and balconies. Their rich textures create a stylish extension of your interior. Made from durable, weather-resistant materials such as UV-resistant polypropylene or acrylic, these rugs are resistant to sun damage, rain and dirt. That makes them ideal for long-term enjoyment, without compromising on looks. With different patterns, colours and textures to choose from, outdoor rugs can level up any outdoor space, making it the place to be.

SUMMERY MINIMALISM

Scandinavian minimalism in outdoor furniture does exactly what it should: bring simplicity and functionality together in timeless design. In other words, an uncomplicated attention to the beauty of materials. What is on this summer’s wish list? Fritz Hansen’s Pelagus lounger, designed by Note Design Studio is comfortable, flexible and adjustable to five settings. The lightness and transparency of its weather-resistant Sling fabric seat adds a modern touch. Looking for more of the same? Then opt for HK Living’s glamorous outdoor Teak daybed, complete with stracciatella topping.

SOLOSHOW

A focal point on the patio adds ambiance and personality – be it a sculptural chair, designer lamp or striking table – it immediately attracts attention and sets the tone of your outdoor space. With the Wire S, Belgian design duo Muller Van Severen conjures perfect equilibrium between functionality and aesthetics. Originally designed for Solo House in Spain, the minimalist, grid-structured design makes a distinctive statement with broad appeal both indoors and outdoors, instantly giving the patio a ‘McFun’ vibe.

MIX AND MATCH TEXTURES

Cane, wicker and teak are the indispensable materials dominating outdoor furniture this year. They balance beauty, durability and weather resistance, while nearly imperceptibly merging with nature. In 2025, we are also saying goodbye to uniform patio surfaces and embracing mixed textures, like smooth concrete paired with rough stone or sleek metal furniture with luxurious outdoor cushions. Expect surprising combinations across the board – from dining sets to lounge chairs.

Earth tones strike the perfect balance between neutrals and vibrant colours, making them an ideal choice for both interiors and exteriors. For outdoor furniture, on-trend colours like taupe, terracotta, olive green, sandy beige and Pantone’s Mocha Mousse – 2025’s Colour of the Year – dovetail perfectly with this development. They produce a serene vibe in the garden and on the patio, as well as blending into our outdoor surroundings harmoniously. Highlights within this trend are the SPC chairs and the TT-Table (Tube Table) Marron from the Belgian atelier of Thomas Serruys. The Tube Table is a stylish steel outdoor table with a geometric tubular frame, its three tops appear to float elegantly above the frame and are connected by custom-made Ertalon components. The table’s durable powder coating offers a high-quality, weatherproof finish.

ATMOSPHERIC LIGHT, SERENE GARDENS

The focus on biophilic design amplifies the need for calming environments. Essential to this design genus are ergonomic furniture, natural planting and atmospheric accessories. Soft outdoor lighting has a key role to play in setting a relaxed scene. Brands like Martinelle Luce and Linea Lights excel in this with lanterns, string lights and dimmable lamps that create a warm, inviting atmosphere.

LUXURIOUS RETREAT

Outdoor cooking and relaxing have been the new norm for a while, creating balance between comfort and a nature experience. Brands like Barbecook offer convenience and precision with the gourmet Arthur pellet grill, which lets you bake, roast, smoke, grill and sear with the flavour of wood. And OFYR refreshes the outdoor kitchen with a new anniversary model in mirror polished steel as an iconic statement piece. Luxury outdoor kitchens are also increasingly complemented by wellness elements, such as Starck’s outdoor shower, a sublime extension of the home.
